Moving to Poole?

The seaport town of Poole is situated on the very beautiful south coast of Dorset. An area of significant antiquity it dates back to before the Iron Age and has continued to maintain itself as being a place of importance. It is the location for one the busiest ports in England, which has been in use for many hundreds of years, and nowadays offers daily ferry services across to France and the Channel Islands.

Poole’s most famous attribute has to be its harbour! The largest natural harbour in Europe and second only to Sydney Harbour in the world! It contains a number of small and rather wonderful islands, which add to the romance and adventure of the area! Brownsea Island is the most well known. The island is now a nature reserve owned by the National Trust. The habitat and ecology of the harbour area, both in its wetlands and heathlands, make it a site of international importance for nature conservation. It is a haven for birdwatchers, being on the flight path of some interesting migratory birds.

Located just east of the World Heritage Site, the infamous Jurassic Coastline, Poole really does find itself in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Recreationally speaking, Poole, and its surrounding area, has many fabulous activities on offer, including some great summer festivals. Obviously water-sports are high on the agenda here for many of the locals: these include, surfing, sailing, kiteboarding and diving. The world famous ‘Animal Windfest’ is a three-day festival held in September. It brings people from all over the world to watch the amazing feats of surfers, kiteboarders, windsurfers, and more besides.

May through to September sees street entertainment, fireworks and live music, and various other events, on Poole Quay and at Sandbanks. Poole is a historically and culturally interesting place to live. It may not be a huge town, but it holds plenty to occupy oneself with, and all-year round, too!
